When we were visiting family in MidTN, Kirby fell in love with his cousin Joey and well, let's face it, he fell in love with all of Joey's trains. I have never seen so many trains in all my life. Kirby loves trains, I've noticed that. He has a few thomas toys, but he doesn't have train sets with tracks, your know, the whole she-bang. But my goodness, I didn't realize how much he loved trains, and my goodness, does this little guy want/need a train set. He was up each morning before 5 in the morning when we were visiting, chanting choo choo, ready to play. He even opted to stay inside for most of the day Saturday to play with trains rather than go outsides, which is not his usual behavior. We all discussed what a train Christmas this would have to be for Kirby. I have a feeling we'll have trains coming out of our ears after Christmas!
The week after we got home. Kirby was quietly and independently playing in his little toy room as he often does as I clean up in the kitchen (so cute and helpful). He came running into the kitchen clapping and cheering yay and running in place as he often does (insert another "cute" comment here). I cheered with him and asked him to show Mommy why he was so excited. He took my hand (sweet) and led me into the toy room to show me his tow truck, fire truck, and thomas engine all lined up end-to-end. He had created his own little train set (melt). My heart broke that he wanted to play so badly with a toy that we didn't have (I know, poor deprived child, right?), and my heart burst with pride that he was clever enough to create his own train set.

Well, I broke down today - just two months before the Christmas of Trains to Come - and bought him the Thomas Train Set that Joey had. I was so happy walking out of Target today and couldn't wait to get home, so he (ahhhhmmm, we) could play with it. We were out and about late today so I put him down for nap and set up his new toy while he was sleeping. It was like Christmas morning. He got down from his chair for snack, and when he saw the set, he ran to it shouting "Choo chooooo" and immediately began playing. This was possibly the best money I have ever spent.

Now, I hope he'll eat and sleep in this house knowing that choo choos are here to play with. We shall see.....
Oh, Kirby, you are a smart one! Look at your Kirby-made train!
