I had great intentions of getting professional pics of the young man every 3 months for Kirby's first year, then 18 months and 2 years and then hopefully every year after that. I had storybook images in my head of what these precious pics would look like all hanging on my walls in beautiful frames. Well, we've gotten the pics taken, but they didn't quite turnout like I had envisioned, in fact a few of the sessions resulted in my tears (along with his), but I did the pics. I didn't even think of taking a newborn pic of that precious bundle, but I will remember to do that for #2.
Every time I have taken him for pics, it has been a bit of a photographic joke. For the sweet 3 month pics, I got lost driving from our new town, and he fell asleep in the car during the 1.5 hour drive that should have been only 30 mins (hey, I never claimed to be a Magellan). Of course, he was a grumpy little tiger when I woke him up for his pics. They were OK, but nothing that I had imagined. 6 months pics were not much better. He didn't take his AM nap so he was super-tired for his appointment, and when we got there, let's just say Kirby was a little afraid of his photographer and cried or just sat with a scared, stoic look on his face. 9 months were a zoo as they were part of the Trailov Christmas picture extravaganza, and his year pics were again, that stoic, scared boy arrived. Where does my smiley boy go when a camera is stuck in his face?
I've decided that I'm done making appointments because every time I make one, there is some reason in our schedule that it doesn't work out. So I've just decided to get dressed up when he's looking energetic and extra photogenic. Since the 18-month mark and every time that I've thought to take him to the studio, in typical little boy fashion, he's had a black eye or a busted lip or a scratch on his face so I've put it off until he was picture perfect. Yeah right! He's a little boy. On Monday, despite the scratch on K's forehead thanks to those extra-long fingernails that are virtually impossible to keep trimmed, we headed to the studio...no appointment, of course, right? I drove all the way out to Carmel, and when I got there, they were closed to setup for their Christmas sessions. Oy, he looked so handsome. So, we would have to be handsome on another day! Tall order, but I'm pretty sure this little guy can do it again. I decided that this morning was the day. We got all dressed up (again) and headed to Kroger before our 11:00 appointment. Yes, I made an appointment, but I'm not really sure because it is not like I'm on time anywhere these days (yikes...I'm this bad with one? What will it be like with two?). We breezed through Kroger to get our needs, including the ORANGE iced cookie that Kirby ate and managed to get all over his sweater and face, and hopped back in the car with just enough time to get to our session. We were 10 minutes into our drive, and I was chatting it up with my boy, when I took a quick peek behind me and saw that he only had one shoe on. I stopped the car in the median of the highway and searched the backseat before making a U-turn back to Kroger to stand in line for 10 minutes at customer service to ask for his shoe. We found the shoe, but now we were late late late. So, we showed up VERY fashionably late. I guess that was our third trip there, right, and third time is a charm? Well, we had a great photographer, and another girl came and entertained him and made him laugh. By the end, he was entertaining them. And then he even sat and shared his "choo choos" (yes, we took them with us) with another little boy while I picked out my favorite pics, which was not an easy task, I might add!! What a morning! Wheewwww....So glad I have this memory to look back on and so glad I have these sweet pics of my boy to cherish when he's all grown up some day. Worth all the work!
