Its a BOY!! - Week 1d

Well, it is now my boys and I - Keith, Quillen and now Kirby James Hollister, who entered our lives on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 10:50 pm.  Thank you, God, for a beautifully healthy baby.  We are now a family of three; well, 4.  Quillen, we haven't forgotten about you!!!

I was very emotional Thursday night before the induction - I was excited about what was to come; I was a little sad about what we were saying goodbye to - it has been seven years of just Keith and me, and I had gotten very use to it!; I was nervous about birth, but mostly I couldn't wait to see the little face and hold the little body that has been kicking me and keeping me awake for the past 9 months.  Were we having a girl?  Were we having a boy?  Would he/she look like Keith or me?  Would he/she be healthy?  So much anticipation.  I was not able to sleep at all Thursday night.  I knew I needed to get my rest, but I just couldn't.  I knew that I was going to meet MY baby the next day.

We were scheduled to be at the hospital at 6:00 am for the induction.  We arrived at 6am on the dot.  By about 7:30, I was getting my IV and getting ready to receive the magical pitocin drip to get this baby moving, and boy (hahah, no pun intended) did it work.

Ready to go!

Mom and Dad-to-be
I progressed throughout the day rather quickly.  By 12:30, I asked for my epidural and quickly received relief and labor was much more relaxing so I could enjoy the day and enjoy our guests.  My folks arrived as did Keith's parents.  We were grateful to have them with us, awaiting the arrival of this little bundle.  By 7:45, they allowed me to begin pushing.  My goodness.  I knew this was going to be difficult, but I had no idea at all!  After about an hour of pushing, they had me stop because there was another patient who was more emergent than I, and they needed to quickly get her delivered.  So I took a little rest and prepared myself for what I didn't know would be another 2+ hours of pushing until at 10:50 pm our son arrived.  Did you hear that? - Our SON arrived.  We have a SON.

Bless his heart, the cord was wrapped around his neck twice, and he was a meconium baby, meaning he had had his first bowel movement in utero, which is potentially dangerous considering that he could have inhaled this matter in his lungs.  They laid him on my chest for a short second and our first meeting and allowed Keith to QUICKLY cut the cord.  Then they called for respiratory and whisked him away to take care of him.  Fortunately, we heard that glorious little cry before respiratory arrived so he was OK.  They cleaned him up, weighed him at 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and measured him at 20.5 inches.  And then they gave him to me.  He was beautiful and in my arms.  Finally, he was in my arms.  God had blessed us with an amazing gift, and we are very grateful. We have a SON.  Did I already say that?  Keith and I selfishly soaked him in for a little while and kept our poor families hanging in the waiting room before we brought them back to see the new addition.

We had decided our first name a long time ago for a boy, but we had three other middle names we were deciding among.  Once we saw this sweet child, we knew immediately who he was - meet Kirby James Hollister.  Kirby is the maiden name of Keith's great grandmother, and James was his grandfather's name.  Please, meet Kirby James Hollister.

If I didn't already love this man, I fell in love with him all over again when I saw him with our child, and I have fallen deeper in love with him each passing day and each time I hear him talk to him or care for Kirby.  He's an amazing father, just I knew he would be.

Mimi and Grandma were too excited and couldn't wait to get their hands on the little one.
Mimi couldn't stand it...she wore her blue shirt to predict the arrival of a boy.  She did have a pink shirt in the bag just in case.
They were in love at first sight!
Proud Grandma.
Deda and Grandpa.
Uncle Michael can't wait to go golfing with Kirby.
Aunt Dee and Uncle Bryan were so excited.
Cousins, Jordan and Sami
Happy Mimi and Grandma
Just another little picture to show you just how cute!

All dressed up and ready to go.
First outing - pediatrician's office, where he received a clean bill of health and big thumbs up and then to Kroger to pick up some odds and ends.  He handled it very well.
And for those of you who have wondered how Quillen is handling the new arrival, he's doing just fine and figuring out how to share my lap with the little creature.  Clever little dog.

Your blog post recreated last friday so beautifully and poignantly that it seemed that I was still there.

Congratulations to Keith and you! As I mentioned to you last Tuesday, Kirby is the most furtunate baby in the world because he has parents like the two of you.

I love you Susanne with all my heart and soul. I am truly fortunate to have a daughter such as you.

    Love,

    Dad/Deda

Party of 3 plus furry little friend.
How I miss being there to see those little fingers (LONG fingers-he'll be able to reach an octave with no trouble at all) and those little toes (and LONG feet--better to swim with, my dear:)
I love, love, love you all!
