What a week!

When I was a kid, we used to have a week training after Christmas that we called HELL week.  We would train doubles and then get a funny little "I survived HELL week" Tee shirt.  I need a shirt after last week!!!  Certainly don't want to come off as a complainer.  I know everyone goes through these types of weeks, and I'm sure I'll have more to survive.  However, my plans are to publish this blog into a book as Kirby's baby book since I've been slack at his real "baby book" so perhaps this post is more for us than for our "fans."  Well, here goes.

The not-so-cute
Wednesday morning I woke up to the sweet coo-s of a sweet baby.  I went into his room, and well, I'll spare you all the details, but my little punkin had gotten sick in his sleep.  I felt so bad that I had no idea when he got sick and how long he had lain there in it.  Sad mommy!  Fortunately, he seemed cheerful and playful.  Tuesday night he had eaten nectarines for only the second time so I thought perhaps he had had an allergic reaction to them.  I got him cleaned up, and we started with our normal morning routine.  Keith had worked Tuesday night sand walked into the door just before haaayeelll broke loose.  Kirby got sick everywhere and on everyone, including poor Quillen.  Needless to say, I don't think it was an allergic reaction to nectarines.  Sweet, lil' Kirby had his first stomach bug.  Poor buddy.  He spent the next hour or so on Keith's chest napping, followed by a little play on our living room floor, which we had covered with plastic floor-covering and beach towels, and then another nap on my chest.  Call me crazy!!!  We were just shy of haz-mat suits.  Seriously, I knew this day as a mother was coming, and I have been dreading it.

I felt guilty all day because I figured he contracted this nasty bug from the YMCA child care that I put him in on Monday when I was touring the facilities before joining.  Now, I know that I have to learn to leave him out of my care, and I need to do something for myself, and all the wonderful reasons to put him in the child care there, but I can't bare the thought of leaving him in there again to catch some other plague.  It breaks my heart that putting him in there for my own selfish reasons made him sick.  AND THEN...

For someone who fears the stomach bug, I hadn't lived in fear that I was going to get sick.  Honestly, this is really impressive for me.  Boy, was I foolish!  Thursday night, I had bought ice cream for dessert for Keith and me.  I wasn't feeling good, but I thought perhaps it was just in my head, and I was making myself feel sick because of the recent events at our home.  I knew it was on when I realized I didn't even want any ice cream.  Thursday night was one of the worst nights I've had in a long time....Keith too.  We both wound up sick, and I haven't felt that close to my death bed, I think EVER.  AND I had to be mom all day on Friday on top of that.  It is true what they say...there are no sick days for moms.  Sheesh.  It was a long day on Friday, one that I wanted to end so badly!  Fortunately, it did, and we all survived.  I'm sure there is more where that came from in our future!  Ick. I still don't understand how such a small, cutie can make two grown adults sooooo very sick.  Wow.  Thank God that is behind us, and thankfully I began to feel like a normal human being by Tuesday this and actually wanted to eat.  BUT, I did fit into my pre-pregnancy pants and jeans after this butt-whooping bug!  Silver lining, people....silver lining.

Saturday was filled with a whirlwind cleaning.  I seriously cleaned EVERYTHING in this house.  I kinda felt like I needed to burn it down and start again to get rid of the germs, but I figured that would be a bad idea!!!!  Nothing like a good virus to bring out the mad-cleaning.

The oh-so-Cute!
Now, onto the cuter things!  Yesterday, we went to the Y.  Keith works Tuesday nights so he is home with us during the day so we took Kirby to swim!  SOOoooo much fun!  When we first got there, the small, warmer pool was closed so we put him in the lap pool, which he was none too impressed with.  I think it was too cold for him.  Then we took him to the small pool, and he squealed and laughed and had so much fun!!!  Keith dunked him under the water once, and then he continued to stick his face in the water.  He would kick his little feet and smile so big.  I love seeing this amount of joy from him. THIS is why I joined the Y.  I knew it would be fun for him.  Oh yeah, and apparently, it'll strengthen his immune system.   :(

Last night Kirby was working on his crawling skills.  He has progressed from one forearm, a hand and both knees to rocking on all 4s.  Last night, he added a new skill.  I was sitting near him, and he would reach towards me while on all 4s.  He would flop onto his belly, but he would get right back up on all 4s and reach with one hand again.  He's getting it.  It truly won't be long before he is scooting all over these floors.  Yikes!  Am I ready for that?  Check him out.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1wVC-P6p5w

Kirby tried crackers for the first time on Monday night.  Cute little fingers.  He chased crackers all over his tray and occupied himself while we ate our dinner.  I'm pretty sure he hardly ate any cracker, but he sure did get the concept.  It is hard to believe!!!

So there you have it.  It has been the craziest week as a new mom I've had thus far.  Fortunately, this week when Keith arrived home from night shift, he arrived to a quiet home with a napping, healthy baby so he could put himself down for his own rest.  Now, this momma has some work to do.

I do not know how you moms do what you have to do to raise children! Tnank goodness for moms! Taking care of Kirby while he was sick, and then becoming sick yourself could not have been a picnic.
