Goodbye, sweet pappi

Both my kids have been paci kids.  Pretty much from the get go. I leave a paci or two in the crib just so they both have had an extra one in case one falls out or gets lost. Susanna Rose is much more attached to hers than Kirby ever was (can you say requesting pappi at almost all hours?). He had already broken himself of it well past this age, but she is nowhere ready to be without it. The random night I tried to take it away was U.G.L.Y.!!!  We do at least limit it to naps and bedtime and even church so you know, she's not taking it out of her mouth to talk to us (my paci peave), but she would if I let her. She loves her pappi.

Tuesday morning, Susanna Rose woke up chewing on something small in her mouth. I fetched out a small piece of plastic paci nipple. She has eaten through her paci. I put the paci aside, meaning to grab it and throw in the trash, but of corse this absent-minded mom forgot. Later that night, Keith, not knowing the paci was out of commission, gave her the beloved paci at her request of course while he was getting her ready for bedtime. I flew in, in my typical frenzied mom state.  I saw it in her mouth and took it away from her.  Bad.move.mom!!!!! I gave her another, but different paci. She was sucking away and screaming for her pappi at the same time.  I had no idea she preferred just one of her pacis over the others. She cried and cried about it for a good while.  I couldn't console her, but she did eventually settle for the other backup paci and fell soundly asleep.

So Tuesday night we said goodbye to a good friend, the yellow pappi. How come I have a feeling dropping her paci altogether is going to take monumental efforts???
