Mr. Opinionated

When we got home from trick-or-treating a few weeks back, Keith was a little confused why I would be crying after such a fun night.  I don't know why but it took me seeing my boy "pick out his favorite candy" door after door on Halloween night to realize that he is quickly growing up right before my eyes.  Everyone always says it happens in the blink of an eye and to "enjoy them when they are little because they get so big so fast", and you believe them, but you don't really understand until you see it happening minute after minute, hour after hour, and day after day.  So much learning, so many physical changes, so much personality.  It took Halloween night for me to realize and I've been thinking about it ever since that he no longer relies on us for his BASIC needs.  He has wants.  He has OPINIONS.  Oy.  He has opinions.  He wants to play with his choo choos.  He wants to watch Elmo.  He wants oatmeal or pizza for E.V.E.R.Y. meal of the day.  He wants Momma to "hold you" (YES!)...no can't be...he NEEDS Momma to hold you, right?  He wants his truck every time we go outside to push it up and down the sidewalks.  He wants to read Llama Llama (Manama), Shadow Boxes (A, Apple), Happy Easter Curious George (Juuuuuudggggggge), Ahoy There Little Polar Bear (Yars), and Happy Birthday to You (Happy Twoey) before EVERY SINGLE NIGHT and NAP, and after EVERY SINGLE NIGHT and NAP. He wants to rock in a rocking chair (whoa whoa whoa!).  He does NOT want his diaper changed or to go to bed when he's having fun.  He does NOT want his face and hands cleaned off.  He does not want to come inside...EVER.  He does NOT want to swing in the baby swing...he wants the big boy swing.  He does not do the little kid section of the park...he does the super-dooooper-daredevil-give-mom-a-heartattack-big-kid slides.

Well, as long as he still wants Momma to hold him, he can keep on, keepin' on.  He just better make sure he still has a desire for those fabulous Momma hugs and kisses.
