Half my height

After a long hot summer full of shorts and tees, I thought those 12-month pants were high-waders these cooler days.  Kirby had his 18-month appointment last week.  Apparently, he has been busy doing some growing!  His 15-month appointment didn't mark any huge changes in the little guy, but as the doctor said, he made up for it in the past 3 months.  He grew more than 3 inches to 34".  He is more than half my height these days, which of course...hahaha, is not saying much, but is a funny way to look at it!  He's an average little dude in weight and head size, and he received his last shots until he is 4.  Yay for Kirby!  The doctor was pleased all around.  We go back when he's two for another visit, but no shots...Yipppeeee!

He is a curious little guy!!!  Careful what you say because he will make an attempt at the last word of just about every sentence.  And then surprisingly he uses that word correctly at a later time.  It blows my mind to see the wheels in his mind constantly turning and that little light bulb just blinking on all the time.  He's very attached to his Momma, and he loves his Daddy!!  He dances and runs in place with such excitement when Keith comes home.  He can't get to him fast enough!  If he sees anyone in a pair of scrubs, he says, "Dadda?"  He has a few new companions.  He dropped his paci just fine and is now attached to a little white blankie, a stuffed white bunny, and a stuffed puppy.  Night time and nap time routine better include all three.  He is enjoying Sesame Street these days in addition to the beloved Thomas.  He requests to watch Choo Choo or Melmo and will actually watch a little of it.  He doesn't sit, though, he just kinda dances around.  :)  I must say, Momma is a bit of a fan of Sesame Street.  It is actually kinda funny, and I appreciate the educational value to it so that is nice.  He can count to two.  Hahah.  And he says his ABs.  Hey, we're getting there!  And oh my goodness does he love Curious George.  We have one book, Happy Easter Curious George, and we read it for nap and night and sometimes throughout the day.  I MUST go to the book store to get another George book because that one is getting a little worn out (or perhaps I'm a little worn out on it...hhaaha)!!!  He loves a slide.  Oh goodness, he loves to climb up the slide and slide down by himself, and he really does love to swing.  I have got to get a swing set in our backyard.  He's be set!!!!  He is very interested in planes (NEEEee), cars (beep beeps), and trains (choo choo).  He tends to always have one of the tree in his little hand at all times, and it is hard to pry one of those suckers out of his tight grasp.  He has learned that we get a cookie when we go to Kroger.  I tell him we're going to Kroger, and he says, "Yaaayyy Kroger.  Cookie?"  Oy.  Pavlov's dog, right?  He's a handful in mass these days, but it melts my heart and makes it all feel worth it when we pull up the church drive, he sees the steeple, and says "Jesus (Jia)".  Then when we get there (even if I'm just going for my MOMS group, which does not meet in the sanctuary but rather in a classroom), we have to go see Jia and Mary (Weary) in the vestibule.  When we get into the sanctuary, he points at Jesus and says "Yay Jia."  And he finds Mary immediately too.  We have a little more work to do during communion because he's pretty quick to reach out and grab for a "Cracker."  YIKES.  Hands off for now, buddy!  And yeah, that is not a cracker, dude.

He's such a fun little guy, and I'm really enjoying my time with him!  I love to watch him play by himself, and I love when he comes and grabs my hand and leads me to play with him.  Melts my heart.  He's very adventurous, but he really does have a little caution to him.  He will get to the steps and stick his little hand out and say "HEP", and we'll walk down the stairs together.  We go out front to play and he wants to run the streets like the big-kid-neighbors, but he knows to stay on the sidewalk so he sticks that little hand out to me and says "HEP, Hep ya hep ya!"  He has seriously brought so much joy to our lives.  We laugh that we don't have a clue what we used to do before he was here because all we can do even when he's not with us is talk about Kirby and what he did that day.

I am making a new promise to be a little more active in my blogging these days. The small gig at the Y and the new part-time from home computer job have made it more difficult than I thought to find time to keep yall up to date with the little man, but I'm going to regret not making the time to photograph my love and tell his stories so someday we'll all remember them like they really were yesterday.

  2. MSTH:

This was a very nice blog with a detailed update on Kirby. He certainly appears to be learning every day of his life. Those baby words and expressions are priceless! I can remember a little girl that used to say "toot" for "cute," "geal" for "girl," and "skorts" for "shorts."

  3. Every time you have a new blog post, I just sit here and read in amazement at how we are raising two kids that are so alike!! I love reading all about what Kirbs is up to these days. And oh how I wish that he and Jane could play together!!!

(Jane's newest word today is 'boots', except she pronounces it like the first syllable of 'tootsie roll'... She got some fancy new boots this morning, and she is obsessed. When she woke up from her nap this afternoon, the first thing she did was point and say excitedly 'hehro, boots!')

    MISS Y'ALL!!! xoxo
