Godspeed, Little Man

Happy Birthday, Kirby James!!!

Every month, little man, I have tried to capture every little thing you are doing so someday I can read these words and vividly remember each moment.  It is funny what they say...somehow you forget some of these amazing moments.  But who are THEY anyway?  Well, whoever they are, I have learned that sadly they are right.  So, I pray that my words written in black and white will jar my memory years from now so I can hear those sweet giggles and feel that soft skin on mine years from now.  I hope I don't lost one sweet moment in my mind.

Oh, your little giggle...its infectious!!; your soft fingers wrapped tightly around mine; those sweet squeezy hugs; those squishy squishy thighs...oh, Kirby, those squishy thighs; your squeals of delight when I turn on the bathwater; your grunts of joy as you crawl towards me; the toothy smile on my face as you pull up on my legs and beg for me to hold you; those zerberts you love to give me on my belly - EVEN in public; the weight of your body against my chest; our snuggle time as you nurse; the giant smile that spreads from head to toe when you see your Dada; your love of chasing the dog; and even those nips you give me.  Your screams of dislike while we change your diaper or get you dressed; your need to throw all your food on the floor rather than eat and the smile that results; your insistence on feeding the dog; and even your need to constantly be on the move even though it cuts into our snuggle time.

You love books.  You love to take control of story time and flip from page to page.  You point out the moon on each page and love to look for it in the sky.  Your favorite toy is a tie between your ball popper toy and your wooden push toy.  You'll stand over that ball popper toy and let the flow of air blow your hair kinda like Miss Marilyn Monroe, and it makes me laugh!  You push that "segway" as we call it all over this house, requiring to be picked up and turned around when you run into walls, sofas, or chairs.  You love balls and throw quite well, I might add!!!!  Sadly, you love Quillen's nasty Santa toy.  You aren't really attached to a blankey or lovey, but you love your paci...yeesh.  You can't get enough lights, and balloons...you LOVE them!  You like to eat food off my plate.  It must just taste better from my plate than from your tray!  And you  bang your paci on your crib to call me to your side when you're awake.

My dear Kirby, I was overwhelmed with feelings of FEAR, excitement, and love when I saw your little face at 10:50 pm on March 4, 2011.  You were blue because your chord was wrapped around your neck and you were a yucky brown because you had had your first bowl movement in utero, but I still couldn't wait to hold you. I held you while Dr. Pickler allowed your Daddy to quickly cut your chord.  I wanted to hold you longer and soak in every moment, but they whisked you away to get you cleaned up and call in respiratory to possibly work on you, but then we heard that little NaaaNaaaaaaNa cry that we have grown to love.  Then you were in my arms, and now, now I can't keep you in them enough!!!

It is hard for me to believe that someday your sweet soft cheeks will have a five 'o clock shadow on them, that a cross word might be spoken from those luscious little lips, that your tender hands will hold babies of your own, or that you will care for your father and me in our waning years.  But rest assured, little man, that every step of the way, your father and I will always be your biggest cheerleaders and love you more than you will ever know.

So, happy birthday, Little Man.  It will be an honor to someday be in the company of match box cars in your eyes!  And my love will always fly to you on angel's wings.  Always! Godspeed, Kirby!

Not surprising to read such beautiful words from a beautiful daughter about her son and the love that she feels and has for him.
