4 months old

My sweet Kirby,
You were four months old on July 4.  I type this post as you explore all the exciting activities on your exersaucer and talk to them.  It is unbelievable to me that just a few weeks ago, I could put you in there for just a few minutes, holding you up, and you would get frustrated because you couldn't put the items in your mouth.  Now you touch each character, spinning and tipping them as they were intended to be.  You still think the parrot (or the chicken as I have been calling him...duh...bock, bock, bock) is hysterical, and the lion sometimes scares the smile right off your cute face.  We try to keep your back to him.

I can't believe it has already been four months.  People told me that time would fly, and boy were they right.  I remember sitting in our chair in the late nights when you were weeks old wondering when those multiple late night meetings would end because I was so tired, and though I do love my newly-found good night's rest, sometimes I miss them and wish to hold your little body next to mine again.  So, remind me that when I'm longing for your next new milestone to not look forward but to enjoy and savor the moment we are currently in together.

Here is a list of your doings at four months and a schnazzzzzzy picture of a handsome and funny little boy.

* You are sleeping 9-10 hours at night.  Alleluia!!!!!!  I miss you though when you are gone from me that long!
* You are just beginning to do a better job napping!  We've had a few 1.5 hour naps here lately, and I'm shocked!  You just don't want to miss this action, do you big boy?  I wonder where you get that from?  I've just moved you into your crib for naps, and you are taking to them just fine.  Each nap requires a 5-10 minute whine/cry, and then you're down.  Sometimes, you'll just play and talk yourself to sleep.
* You don't keep your paci in your mouth.  You take it out and chew all around it and pop it back in sometimes.
* I think you are going to be a thumb-sucker.  I catch you with it in your mouth on a very regular basis.  Just like your momma.  :)  Hopefully you won't suck yours as long as I did....NOT telling!
* You are beginning to arch your back and throw your arms up in frustration.
* Your eyelids and all around them turn red when you are tired.  Then you rub them with the back of your hands to let us know you mean business.
* You are not a big fan of your bumbo seat anymore.  You try your best to exit it.  YIKES.
* You love Love LOVE your play gym and could kick and play underneath all the toys and the MIRROR for hours at a time.
* You are very close to finding your feet.
* You still do NOT like tummy time; however, you are doing better with it now that you can lift your head up off the ground.  You are getting really close to rolling over to your back.
* You think your Dada is the funniest around.  Quillen is a close second in the humor department.  That dog can be curled up asleep on the floor minding his own business, and you will laugh at him so hard!  You two will be big friends before we know it.
* You love to snuggle with the Momma when you are sad or tired.  I might add, though, that you are such a happy little boy that the sadness and the snuggles aren't that often.
* You love to take walks with the Momma and Quillen in the BOB.  You especially love to take our walks when Dada can join us!!!!  You like him to push you cause he pops wheelies and turns in circles.  WEEEEE.  Momma doesn't so much freestyle walk, does she?!
* You think the raspberry is a funny trick.  It always makes you laugh, and you love making them yourself.
* You enjoy Momma and Dada's dinner time in your bouncy chair or in my lap.  You are really beginning to watch us eat, following the fork with your eyes as it moves from our plates to our mouths, and we think we even see you chewing.

This smile lights up my life.
Kirby, you have brought more joy to my life than I thought or ever imagined.  I enjoy watching you grow and experience everything for the first time, but do me a favor, and slow down already!!!  You're growing too fast.  I love you.

  2. MSTH:

Kirby is a very fortunate boy to have such a caring, loving, attentive, and devoted mother. Hopefully, I will be around when he is able to see these posts, and I will be able to see his reaction when he reads your wonderful tributes and progress in his development. He will feel good about himself.
